This thread's purpose is to help with explaining the world and with character creation. I'll try to have everything you'd need to create a character and everything you might want to know about the world we'll be playing in here. Now don't get me wrong this won't have absolutely everything since this will mostly be concerned with Supernaturals. Anything related to humans should be pretty similar to our real world.

Were Information
The Were races include all shifters that are affected by the moon. Weres come in several racial varieties based on the animal they become. Weres are one of the long lived races but are not immortal. Were refers in general to a race of people that have two forms or possibly three: an animal, human, and possibly a hybrid form. Weres tend to live in packs but some races of were are much looser organized.
Were/Shifters Weaknesses
Materials : Gold, Silver, Copper, or Iron Were/Shifters always have trouble with one of these metals, but usually only one.
Effects : Forced to human form, Loose of Powers, Traps in animal form, or other impairments. The effect of the metal is easy to predict be cause it is the same for every member of a family.
Were/Shifters and the Moon The Full Moon and New Moon affect all Were/Shifters. The affects are passed through the Mother's line, and are opposite effects. If during the Full Moon you are forced to Shift, then during the New Moon you can not Shift.

Elves
Elves were some of the first Fae to intermix and live among humans. They like the fae have a weakness to iron and their magic doesn't usually mix well with modern technology. Elves live predominantly in the mortal realm instead of in the realm of Faerie. Wood - Revealed as the true source of the Green technology movement, these expert artisans have keep the delicate trade of hand crafting alive. Wild - An endangered race of elves do humans reckless deforestation. -A sub race of the wild elves that still exists in some places is called the Lythari. The Lythari are shifters where each one possesses an animal form. They have no hybrid form nor are they called by the moon to shift. Their like weres except with the elvish restrictions instead of the Were ones. Dark/Shadow - Two different but related races of elf. Dark Elves lose their Powers and suffer physically if they get exposed to direct sunlight. Shadow Elves have their powers weakened in any sunlight. Both can see in darkness without aid, but Dark Elves can hide from any one while in darkness. Blood - Similar to vampires but have a masqued and unmasqued form. Blood elves drain the magic from their prey although some are more vampiric needing the blood itself for sustenance. Blood elves tend to be mages and thieves or assassins. Blood elves due to the fact they've interbred with Vampires and merged their bloodlines with the vampires over the centuries are almost completely immune to iron. They have almost always lived in cities preferring the life and intrigue of a city. They are masters of deceit and blackmail. High - ...

Fae Fae covers the ancient creatures of the wild places. Fae tend to worship both God and Goddess as the witches do and males and females often have equal rights. Fae are highly magical creatures and have a weakness for iron. It's hard for Fae to live in cities but many somehow manage it. Fae creatures have interbred with human thus loosing some of their allergy to iron as well as some of their physical identifying features. All Fae belong to either the Seeelie or Unseelie Court or are Rogue and exiled from both courts. There are rumors of an ancient third court reforming, a court that is between the Seelie and Unseelie. When humans hear Seelie they assume that these fae are the good guys. The Seelie tend to hide their problems and the like under the surface, they are much closer to humans in some ways. The Unseelie Court is the dark court where passion and rage are much closer to the surface. They prefer a hard truth to a pretty lie. Fae will in fact weaken and die away from Faerie if their outside of it for to long without something to anchor them. It's worse for the lesser fae, the Sidhe don't experience this. Sidhe - The Sidhe are the nobles among the Fae. Graceful and beautiful, the Sidhe are Masters of Glamour..intrigue...and skirting the truth. The Fae do not lie but piercing through their statements can be hard as is asking the right questions. In their true forms, Sidhe have tri-colored eyes with vertical pupils like in Laurell K Hamilton's books. Goblins - Goblins have their own court. Brownies - Unlike most of the rest of the fae, brownies do not suffer from a weakness to iron. Brownies have traditionally been servants and sometimes attach themselves to a human household. Pixies Faeries Gnomes Nymphs - Tree and Nature spirits. They are bound to their land and can't leave it. In the case of dryads if the tree dies, so does the dryad. Trolls Pooka - Trickster shapeshifters Selkies - Seals with a human and seal form.

Vampires
Vampires are one of the ancient races and can't be killed except by a stake through the heart, the head being severed and taken far from the body, by fire, or through remaining Asleep to long. Vampires come in two varieties, the born and the made. Vampires require blood to survive although some are gifted with the ability to gain most of their nourishment from human food. The degree to which a vampire is dependent on blood is individual to the vampire. Some of the born vampires only need blood to retain their powers. One of the advantages of age for vampires is that after a few hundred years they gain some ability to hang out in the sun. But only for a short amount of time. No vampire is completely immune to the sun unless blessed by a deity, using a spell or magical artifact, or is not a pure blooded vampire. ClansClan names are very old, some nests may not be able to remember which Clan an individual is from. Ventrue - Born leaders, the Venture are known for their long term goals and tactics. They create a large power base that supports itself and hide themselves somewhere near the top. Toreador - Artists, Bards, Rouges, call them what you like, but Toreadors are creatures of passion, beauty, and comfort. Malkavian - Some are half crazy, others are completely gone, none are as bad as a Malkavian. Like everyone, Malkavians see the wold in black and white, but Malkavians can't resist the strange urge to to bold colors. Gangrel - Humans think they are above animals, but Gangrel let the inner feral beast run free. Brujah - The world is run on money and power, take it when and where you can. Tremere - Blood is Life, Life is Power, there fore Blood is Power. Learn to tap the Power of Blood and you can control Life. Nosferatu - Like the world ugliness can hide beneath beauty, but beauty can wear a hideous mask. NestLineage

Witches Witch is a term used for both male and female magic users. It is a style of magic as well as being a racial modifier. Witches can emerge from any other race. All witches are associated with a Coven or Circle. Covens/CirclesTwilight :Darkness : Comprised completely of solitary practitioners, this group represents the romantic and seductive side of the night. Midnight : Solitary, and Triads (groups of three witches) Honor the passing of each day as one dies and another is reborn as a symbol that death is not a complete end.

Department of Supernatural Affairs [United States]
The Department of Supernatural Affairs was created when the first non humans had begun to live openly a few decades ago. Things are still in the early stages and the department has more work than it needs. It hires a mix of Supernaturals and Humans to staff it and is located in the States. There may be other similiar bodies in other countries. They not only work on the relations between Supes and Humans but also on policing the supernatural world. Reincarnated Humans Not technically a type of supernatural since they remain human, there are humans who have been reborn into the modern times and regain their memories. Often they register with the Department of Supernatural Affairs although they aren't required to wear the tags as the rest of the Supernatural population is. Humans also unlike the rest don't need special doctors. Reincarnated Humans often choose a life similar to the one they led before. Sometimes they even hook up with other reincarnated beings that they knew in their past life or lives.

Dragons
Dragons were thought to be extinct for many years but instead they had moved to another plane of reality for the most part as well as taking on human form if they had the magic to do it. Whether Dragons are a race of the Fae or are a seperate and distinct type of Shifter is often debated.
Colors (As in D&D mostly)

Sorcerers/Wizards
Bending and manipulating the ancient forces of energy that create a complicated weave over the surface of the Earth, this is the realm of the Mage. A crack of thunder, a burst of flames, or a chilling wind. Mages can do many things, but at a price. Manipulating the ancient forces takes a toll on the body equal to the change in the balance of the threads. The physical strength of the mage is drained to power their spells. Mages can draw on to much power and kill themselves, so most keep what they do to minor aids or emergencies.
The only real difference is that a Sorcerer/Sorceress is born with the ability to "See" and "Feel" the threads of Ancient power, While a Wizard is one who has learned to "Touch" the threads.
